Uche Collins NWOGWUGWU, the Director of the Institute of Social Policy is a Professor of Economics. He has pioneered research in Energy and Environmental economics, as well as Social and Public Policy amongst others in the university.
The Institute of Social Policy was approved by the Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University at its 224th Meeting held in May 8, 2024 based on report of Professor Uche Collins Nwogwugwu after meeting with the UNICEF officials at the University of Nigeria Nsukka.
Professor Nwogwugwu has served the university in different capacities as Head Department of Economics. He served as the Faculty Representative at the Senate of the university and as the Sub-Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences. He was elected the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Given his achievements as a Dean, the Vice Chancellor Professor Charles Esimone appointed him the Director of the University’s Directorate of International Collaboration and Linkages. While serving as the director of International Collaboration he attracted the institute of Social Policy to the university, where he is now serving as the pioneer director.
Professor Nwogwugwu has published widely and successfully supervised more that 30 PhD graduates of economics department. He has been external examiner for higher degrees and professional assessments to more sixty universities. He is a fellow of the Institute of sustainable development. He was a council member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) and he is currently a council member of the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics. (NAEE).
He was President-General of Obokwu-Obizi Town Union; a past President of Rotary International of Rotary Club of Awka and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Uche Collins Nwogwugwu is a reputable scholar, well published. He established the Nigerian Journal of Energy and Environmental Economics, a flagship journal of the Department of Economics.
He is happily married with children.
