How To Apply

Minimum General Requirements.

Candidates for the Postgraduate programme in Social Policy must possess a minimum of 5 credits including English Language and any four relevant subjects at one or two sittings from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or TC II (Faculty of Education only) based on the Institute and General University Requirements.

Postgraduate Diploma Programme.

The following may apply for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Social Policy programme: Graduates from approved Universities who hold first degree classification with FCGPA of 1.50 and above on a 5-point scale or from approved Polytechnics or Monotechnics who hold a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit.

Masters Degree Programme.

The entry requirements for Master of Science (MSc) programme are as follows: Graduates from approved Universities who hold first degree in any discipline with minimum FCGPA of 2.50 on a 5-point scale 45 or a minimum of 45% for Universities that do not use FCGPA. Holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Social Policy from recognized institutions with a minimum FCGPA of 3.00 on a 5- point scale.

PhD Programme.

Graduates from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and other recognized Universities who hold master’s degree in social policy with minimum FCGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale or a minimum of 60% on the percentage scale.

Areas of Specialisation.

The programme has five (5) areas of specialization:

  • These areas of specialization are applicable in the second semester. Master degree students are expected to choose two courses from their areas of specialization and one elective course while the Doctoral degree students are expected to choose one course from their areas of specialization.

    • Poverty and Inequality.
    • Social Protection
    • Local Governance.
    • Public Financial Management.
