Philosophy of the Programme Social policy is the bedrock of societal interaction, linking government, institutions, and individuals towards understanding the realities of their world. The programme offers a dynamic opportunity for the attainment of a just, equitable and inclusive society that prioritizes the wellbeing of people through thoughtful and effective social policies.
Vision and Mission of the Programme Vision The vision of the program is to propagate knowledge and capacity for national, institutional, and personal transformation of our society. The programme will utilize multi-, and trans-disciplinary strategies to attain an informed and resilient society anchored on research and innovation for a better society.
Aim and Objectives
Aim The programme seeks to equip government, political leaders, academics and individuals with the knowledge, skills and values required to positively impact on society to drive meaningful changes in diverse and evolving contexts.
Objectives The objectives of the programme are to: 1. Influencing and Shaping of Public Policy: It will advocate for the creation of public policies that are equitable, evidence-based, and participatory to offer sustainable development for the populace.
2. Capacity Building and Training: It seeks to ensure the provision of capacity-building and training programmes for institutions, governments, communities, social workers and individuals to enhance their ability to effectively formulate and implement social policies.
3. Research: The programme seeks to promote transdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research to ensure effective social policy delivery through reforms by partnering with government and relevant institutions.
Programmes of the Institute Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Postgraduate Diploma students are exposed to the rudiments of Social Policy. They may wish to proceed to the master’s degree programme of their choice after graduation if they meet the entry requirements.
Masters (M.Sc) Degree Programme The Institute offers Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree programme. Graduates of the Master of Social Policy (M.Sc.) with required grade point can apply for a doctorate degree.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme combines research and course work. The student shall complete the stipulated credits of coursework and seminar including the dissertation required for the award of the degree.
